Joni Michelle White, age 65, (although she reminded us every year that she was turning 21), passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at 4:00 p.m., surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on May 21, 1960, in Floydada, Texas, to Larry Layne and Barbara Gail (Baxter) White.
Joni was the eldest of three children and was deeply loved by her brother, Michael Blayne White, and her sister, Lori D’nene (White) Fatheree. Born mentally handicapped, Joni required lifelong care and support, which her parents lovingly provided with extraordinary devotion and compassion throughout her life. While Joni faced challenges many could never understand, she gave something immeasurably greater in return — joy, laughter, closeness, humor and unconditional love that became the very center of her family.
Joni was beautiful, vibrant, funny, and full of personality. She loved being around people, staying active, dressing fashionably, and being the center of attention wherever she went. She especially enjoyed family gatherings, outings, and participating in Special Olympics. Her smile, expressions, humor, and spirited nature could light up a room and bring laughter to those around her. To know Joni was to love her, and her presence became the nucleus that held her family together.
Though her passing leaves an immeasurable void, her family finds peace knowing she departed this world surrounded by love. Joni’s life was a reminder that the value of a person is not measured by achievement or ability, but by the love they give and inspire in others. She will be deeply missed and forever carried in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
