

Joy Glenn Payne, 78, died Saturday, July 19, 2014, at a local hospital. Memorial service: 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Chapel in Colleyville. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you to make a donation to the American Diabetes Association . Glenn was born in Sulphur Springs, Texas, to Virgil W. and Lorena Ledford Payne. He graduated from Crozier Technical High School in Dallas. After high school he enlisted in the Army and was sent to Fort Drum in northern New York. When he returned to Dallas he attended North Texas State. While at North Texas State he was recalled into the Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Upon completion of his military duty he graduated with a B.S. in industrial arts. He met Aloha Ann Hooper while stationed in New York and they were married in 1959. They have two children, Dawn Marie Mabius and Jeffrey Glenn Payne. His lifetime love of cars led him to work for Ford Motor Company in Dallas and Detroit, Michigan. The family returned to Dallas after a short time in Michigan. Glenn then became a partner in Herb's Paint and Body where he worked until retirement. Glenn spent a lifetime rebuilding cars from 1930s to 1970s. He loved the challenge of taking them apart, putting them back together and making beautiful street rods. Survivors: Glenn is survived by his wife, Aloha; daughter, Dawn Mabius and husband, David; son, Jeffrey and wife, Nicole; grandchildren, Elizabeth Mabius, Rebecca Mabius, Victoria Payne and Autumn Payne; and brothers, Bill and David Payne.
