Joyce Lynn Rutledge

Joyce Lynn (Clark) Rutledge, age 91, passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2026, in Brock, Texas. She was born on April 14, 1935, in Hughes Springs, Texas, to John and Gladys Clark.

Joyce was raised in Loveland, Texas, and Hurst, Texas. She graduated from Birdville High School in 1953. That same year, she married Gordon Earl “Shadow” Rutledge, and together they built a life and family that included their two sons.

Joyce worked for many years as a secretary at Texas Industries. Outside of work, she had a special interest in genealogy and enjoyed the friendship and fellowship of the Daisy Ladies at Friendship Baptist Church in Hurst, Texas.

Joyce will be remembered as a sweet, caring, and generous woman who was always willing to help others, especially her children and grandchildren. She loved to laugh, tell stories, and reminisce about the people and moments that meant the most to her. Her family was her greatest joy, and she treasured every opportunity to be surrounded by those she loved.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, John and Gladys Clark; her husband, Gordon Earl “Shadow” Rutledge; and her son, Jerry Rutledge.

She is survived by her son, Tommy Rutledge and wife, Tammy; granddaughter, Nicole Stewart and husband, Gerald; grandsons, Heath Rutledge and wife, Kristin, and Eddie Rutledge and wife, Chelsea; granddaughters, Jamie Rutledge and Amanda Heien and husband, Jeremy; as well as 19 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

More than anything, Joyce loved her family fiercely and completely. She was the proud matriarch of a family that was never meant to be quiet. A family that was loud, fun, full of stories, laughter, love, and the kind of closeness that made being together something to celebrate. Joyce loved being right in the middle of it all, watching one generation grow into the next and taking great pride in the family that surrounded her. Her 91 years created a legacy that will continue through every generation that follows. As the role of matriarch now passes on, Joyce leaves behind an important legacy for the next generation to fulfill: to keep the family together, to love and care for one another, to keep telling the stories, to laugh loudly, to gather often, and to make sure that the love of family remains at the heart of it all. In carrying on those traditions, Joyce’s presence, influence, and love will remain a part of her family for generations to come.

Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, with the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 17, 2026, and committal service to follow. All services will be held at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 5725 Colleyville Blvd., Colleyville, TX 76034.
