She sought any opportunity to act as His Hands and Feet, which as a Registered Nurse, came quite naturally, a divine match. The same could be said for her meeting Bobby Powell. The two married July 28,1962, love of each other’s lives as she left this world despite his protest.
Kay’s earliest ambition was to be like her mother, one we can now affirm. For as Norma Wren Luette gave defeat no permission, Kay was a woman forged through fire – tempered, tested, but tenderness intact.
For a woman dripping with pearls, lipsticks, and femininity, God bestowed her and Bob three boys. By His intentional design, the same gentle resilience idolized by Kay for her mother was passed down and infused into her treasured sons – Brad, Dan, and Craig.
Kay was at home in the company of others – circled up with her small group, aproned in her kitchen, tabled amongst the dishes and family she and Bobby created (the food he could take no credit). But it is with him, her beloved, Kay was most at home – alone, together, in the quiet fullness of hands held between two parallel recliners.
She now runs home to join her mother, sisters, son, and grandson – a body now freed, and a race well finished. With whom He is well pleased.
Kay was preceded in death by her son, Craig Fenton Powell and grandson, Landon Wren Powell; and is survived by her husband, Robert Luther Powell; sons, Robert Bradley Powell and Dan Clayton Powell, his wife, Lisa Marie Powell, and their daughter, Gabrielle Marie Powell.
