

Larry was born August 3, 1950 in Wichita, Kansas and was the son of Opal (nee Keeler) Mundy and Gerald Mundy. Larry spent his childhood in Colorado and Kansas, Graduating from Wyandotte High School in Kansas City. His love of music followed him through life and he had several stints drumming in bands throughout high school and college. Larry was a National Merit Scholar as well as salutatorian of his high school class of 1968. A lifelong Jayhawk fan, he attended the University of Kansas for his Bachelors and Masters in English Literature, continuing on to Washburn law school for his J.D.
Larry married Julie Ann Smith of Roeland Park, Kansas in1972 and subsequently had two daughters, Blair Mundy and Brett Mundy. He lost his first wife in a tragic car accident but continued to raise his girls as an amazing single father with the help of his mother Opal.
He started his law career working for District Judge Richard Rogers in the US District Court for the District of Kansas in Topeka. After a few years as a law clerk, he went to work for Brock Hotels, moving to Texas with the company. Over the years he worked for multiple hotel brands including Embassy Suites, Hilton Hotels, Motel 6 and Felcor Lodging Trust.
Outside of work, he loved spending time with his family, riding motorcycles and playing drums in his classic rock cover band “Your name Here."
He married his second wife, Catherine Mundy, in 2006 and they went on to travel the world while still making time for their 9 grandchildren, whom he adored. Cathy and Larry were together for 20 years and loved volunteering together at Meals on Wheels.
Larry will be remembered for his wit, his dad jokes, his calm, gentle and steady disposition and of course his love for basset hounds.
He is survived by his wife Catherine Mundy of Trophy Club, TX; daughter Brett Mundy of Austin, TX; daughter Blair Mundy and son-in-law (Delton Cooney) of Austin, TX; stepson Rhys Heinsch and daughter-in-law (Zoe Heinsch) of Dallas; daughter in-law Valerie Heinsch of Scranton, PA; stepson Colton Lovelace, of Dallas; his beloved basset Ruby Begonia of Trophy Club, TX; and Mr. Ned O. Primmer of Topeka, KS. He is also survived by his nine grandchildren: Julien and Archie Cooney of Austin, TX; Maura, Mila and Merryck Heinsch of Scranton, PA; Monroe, Myer, Morrison, and Murphy Heinsch of Dallas, TX, as well as his sister-and brother-in-law Cindy and Ned Elkins of Carlsbad, NM and brother-in-law Charles Giaudrone of New Mexico.
Larry was preceded in death by his first wife, Julie Ann Smith Mundy, his parents Opal and Gerald Mundy, and his stepson Todd Heinsch.
