

He was a proud family man who loved Jesus, his family, his music, fishing and his profession (machinist). He retired after 27 years of service from Texas Instruments in 1997. He enjoyed playing his steel guitar over a period of 30 years with numerous people across the United States and "The Jams" in Roanoke and Watauga, Texas.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Evelyn Van Houten; Children- Melton Van Houten of Bowie, Texas, Suzanne Woolery of Mena, Arkansas, and Curtis Van Houten and wife Joni of Weimar, Texas; Brothers- Ned Van Houten and wife Claudette of Tucson, Arizona, Vyron Van Houten and wife Eunice of Marbury, Alabama, Verby Van Houten and wife Jody of Groves, Texas; Four Granddaughters- Kristin Austew and husband Matt of Kansas City, Missouri, Amanda Huckabee and husband Josh of Mansfield, Texas, Erika Van Houten and Erin Van Houten both of Denton, Texas; Three Great-Granddaughters- Stella Comer, Faye Austew, and Zoe Huckabee; Numerous nieces and nephews, great & great-great nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Carl and Stella Van Houten.
In accordance with Lyle's wishes, only a visitation and a simple graveside service will be held at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home and Memorial Park 5725 Colleyville Blvd. Colleyville, Texas 76034 on Saturday, March 7th, 2026. Visitation at 9:30 AM; Graveside Ceremony at 10:30 AM.
A potluck reception will follow 11:30 AM-2:30 PM at Gospel Light Baptist Church (Fellowship Hall) 341 N. Dorman Street Roanoke, Texas 76262. Meats provided. Will welcome favorite dishes, sides, salads, fruit, desserts, etc.
