Just heard the news that you had passed, and it truly hurts my heart. I’ve known you my whole life, and I feel incredibly lucky to have had you not only as a neighbor, but also as a friend and a mentor. You were someone I always looked up to and learned a lot from over the years. The kindness, wisdom, and example you set meant more than you probably ever realized.
Thank you for the many memories and for the impact you had on my life and so many others. You will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. Rest in peace, sir. My thoughts and prayers are with your family during this difficult time

Lyle gave us so much enjoyment and happiness every time he was playing his steel guitar at the jams.   We couldn’t help but clap along. I can just hear that sweet Christal chandeliers song playing in heaven. We will miss you Lyle.     Betty and Marty

Hi this is Missy I just wanted to share my memory of Lyle he had the greatest personality and character and I really enjoyed seeing him smile at family gatherings with my grandpa John just laughing and smiling always.

A great man one of my favorite uncles and a good person has gone to be with those that have gone before.  I will miss your wonderful smile, beautiful steel guitar and your happy spirit.  Love you Uncle Lyle.  Until we meet again love Carolyn Sue

A good man, a good friend, and a good example.  Had many great conversations with Lyle and appreciated his wisdom on both natural things, and especially on spiritual things.  He will be missed.

We are so happy that we got to know and love Lyle and Evelyn the short while we have been in Texas. We have enjoyed sweet fellowship and also sharing in the music sessions from time to time. We appreciate them both and Lyle will surely be missed.

Our condolences to Evelyn and family. I started working with Lyle at TI beginning in 1980, He was a talented and capable machinist who could build anything with his hands (he built his own house as well as the steel guitar he played!). We often made music  together and our families had many fun times. He was a natural musician, playing many instruments, all by ear. I especially loved his dobro playing. We share a common faith and love of the Lord and he had a quiet wisdom about what really matters. We'll miss the times we had together and most of all, a true friend.

We were truly blessed to have Lyle and Evelyn at our Thanksgiving table one last time!  They were part of the reason we came to TX 20 years ago, to be around such loving family members. Their easy smiles, hugs, music and laughs made us always want to come back for more. I don’t remember him being cross or having an enemy but always a firm handshake and a hearty welcome. His word in meetings was always from his heart, a great example for all of us. Our loss is Heavens gain and I know he’ll be toe tappin to whatever hymn the Angels will be playing.

So many memories of wonderful times with Uncle Lyle and Aunt Evelyn and value so much the warm welcome and sweet fellowship with them!  My first night away from home as a young boy was spent in their home in Albuquerque so Uncle Lyle and Mel and I could get up early in the morning to go fishing on the Rio Grande.  Nearly froze to death that cold December morning…but Uncle Lyle shared his thermos of hot coffee with me!  Best coffee ever!  Deer hunting near Corona NM with tall tales told around the campfire and coyotes singing in the distance…hunting together in Mt Taylor and at Granny Halderman’s place.  Fishing in Texas…. And music of course!  Lyle on his steel guitar and Uncle Verby on the guitar…songs and stories and all such a glorious time!  Touring Texas Instruments plant with Uncle Lyle and my first TI calculator…a handcrafted knife sharpener that Uncle Lyle made for me that I still treasure!!!  Meeting on Sunday morning with Uncle Lyle and Aunt Evelyn…faithful, steady and true!  Inspirations!!!  Memories within memories… Uncle Lyle has passed on but he left us a treasure trove of memories.

So thankful to count Lyle and Evelyn as wonderful friends for over thirty years.  We will miss Lyle so much; he was so helpful by his word and example! Much love to Evelyn and the family .

My family have a close relationship with the Van Houtens since we moved to Albuquerque in 1973.  We have enjoyed and appreciated their fellowship over the years!  

Lyle and Evelyn came to visit us in our field one year and we enjoyed some good music!  Also another visit  and a meal at a restaurant in Canyon when Erica was still going to the WTU. We will miss him.

We’ll miss our dear friend Lyle, and thankful for his fellowship, faithfulness and constancy.   We think of Evelyn and the family with our love and condolences.

Many treasured memories of time spent with Lyle and Evelyn through the years.  Lyle and Ronny took Ryan on his first fishing trip.  We learned that the top of Bluebell ice cream had to be kept scraped off, so it wouldn’t ruin, lol.  Loved hearing Lyle play his steel guitar.  So many memories!!!

Sending my deepest condolences to the family. I remember Mr. Van Houten always outside tinkering with or building something when I was next door at my grandparents house or over at his home during the summer when my sisters and I would play with his granddaughters. He was such a kind hearted man who was always so nice and helping anyone anyway he could if they needed it.

We will sure miss our friend Lyle. Our friendship and fellowship goes back 50 years. We value our memories and times with Lyle and Evelyn. They have been a help to us in so many ways, a real treasure. Our thoughts and prayers are with Evelyn and all the family.
