Ms. Marta Dobbyn

Marta was born on January 1, 1928 in Siegburg, Germany to her parents, Heinrich and Anna Schmitz. She met the love of her life, John Dobbyn while he was working in Germany. They were married on May 15, 1954 and moved to the United States to raise their family. They resided in Rochester, Michigan for 27 years while raising their 5 children. While raising her young family, Marta went back to school and graduated from Oakland University in 1969. The family often spent weekends at a beach cottage on Houghton Lake in Northern Michigan. While living in Michigan, Marta enjoyed her numerous visits to Germany to see her family and friends from her homeland. Marta’s various careers in life included teaching, auto analysis, executive secretary, German language interpreter, and real estate agent. She was a forever learner. She enrolled in continuing education classes at the local college up to the age of 89. Marta also loved learning through her travels all over the world.

Marta is survived by her 5 children Karen Chapman and her husband Jim, James Robert Dobbyn and his wife Debbie, Richard Dobbyn, Marianne Morton, Eileen Jutras and her husband Craig; sister Annalise, 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband John Dobbyn, parents Heinrich and Anna Schmitz, and sister Berta.
