Mick was born on June 1, 1936 in Coon Rapids, Iowa. He graduated from Jefferson High School in Jefferson, Iowa in 1954. He was in the U.S Marines from 1957-60. In 1961 he moved to Texas to work for his uncle in the demolition business. In his spare time he pursued his Private Pilot license. His next challenge was to try a different career switch, so he went to the University of Texas at Arlington and received his Engineering degree on the GI bill in 1971.
He went to work for Bell Helicopter Textron as a supervisor in several departments and gained over the years, friends that loved golf and fishing as much as he did. After retiring from Bell in 1997, he worked as a Marshall at Sky Creek Ranch Golf Club.
He and his wife Cheryl enjoyed many years of traveling all over the United States, in their motorhome. As members of First United Methodist Church he joined Cheryl as a volunteer with Project Help, a combination food pantry and resale shop.
