Mary Jo Smith passed away peacefully on Aug. 2, 2026, after a long illness.
Born March 18, 1942, in Cumby, Texas, to Lowell and Loretta Moore, she married her lifelong sweetheart, Larry T. Smith, in 1960. The couple raised their family in Hurst and moved to Pilot Point in 2000.
Predeceased by Larry in 2010, as well as her sister, Linda Hollywood-Jaco of Greenville, in 2021, and many other treasured relatives and friends.
Mary Jo is survived by her three loving children, Sherri Farrill (and Johnny Ragland) of Decatur, Michael Smith of Haltom City, and Jamey Smith (and Gary McGaughey) of Austin, and a large number of nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mary Jo was a cheerful community volunteer who always enjoyed making new friends while continuing to cherish the lifetime bonds that began in Cumby. Those who knew her will not soon forget her warmth and kindness, nor her knack for knowing when to suggest a cup of coffee or glass of wine (her answer to both: anytime!). And of course, that impish sense of humor that brought smiles to so many.
All are invited to a visitation with the family beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 7, at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park, 5725 Colleyville Boulevard in Colleyville. A celebration of Mary Jo’s life will directly follow at 11 a.m. in the same location.
