Max Wayne Redfearn, 92, of Hurst, Texas, passed away on January 10, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred Merle and Vera Mae Redfearn, his wife, Johnnie Prestell Lack Redfearn, a daughter, Marla Rae Redfearn, and his sister, Virginia Mearl Mowell.
Born in Mt. Pleasant, Texas, on June 11, 1932, he grew up in a small three-room house, which he referred to as a box house. Graduating from Mt. Pleasant High School at just 16, he went on to attend East Texas Commerce College and the University of Texas in Arlington. His career began in Dallas, Texas, where he also became an active member of the Ross Avenue Baptist Church. It was there that he met Johnnie Prestell Lack, the love of his life, and they married on October 9, 1953.
A year after their marriage, Wayne entered military service and was assigned to the 52nd division of the Army's Air Defense Artillery Brigade at Fort Wadsworth, Staten Island, New York. He had some harrowing experiences with gusty winds while releasing weather balloons used to help with ballistics. The knowledge he gained regarding weather-related issues remained a lifetime personal interest.
Wayne truly embodied the principle of excelling in one's chosen career. As an accountant, data processing manager, office Manager / controller for Weaver and Tidwell CPA Firm, he demonstrated this belief by producing over 400 programs during his 32-year tenure. His expertise in numbers extended to all aspects of his life, earning him the nickname "the numbers man."
His retirement years were marked by his dedication and active lifestyle. He became the primary caregiver for his wife until she was admitted to a nursing home. Even then, he kept himself busy by caring for his yard, climbing ladders to trim trees, and working out on the treadmill at the Hurst Senior Center. After his wife's passing, Wayne found a new purpose by volunteering with N.E.E.D. (North East Emergency District) in Hurst, a non-profit organization focused on providing short-term emergency assistance. Wayne’s dedication to helping others and his faith remained strong even as his health declined. He continued to enjoy assisting others and attending or viewing church services. Eventually, he moved to the Sunrise Senior Living Center in Fort Worth, Texas, in November 2023.
The family is deeply appreciative of the care Wayne received while at the Sunrise Senior Living Center. In the final months of his life, he resided in a nursing facility with hospice care provided through Community Healthcare of Texas. The family is forever grateful for the care and support they provided to Wayne and the family.
Wayne leaves behind a loving family, including his daughters Nelda Eserin (Peter), Barbara Courson, Brenda Pointer, and Paula Sklenarik (Clarence). He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 2 step great-grandchildren.
