Melvin Lee Mitchell was born in a tent, in a cotton patch on November 5, 1932, in Rotan, Texas to Johnnie and Julie Mitchell.
On April 3, 1953, he married his beloved Loretta and the Lord blessed their union with 2 sons, Devon and Darin.
Melvin worked tirelessly at growing God’s beauty at various nurseries until branching out to create a legacy for his boys with Mitchell Nursery in Colleyville in the 1970’s.
Trees and Yaupons were of special interest in which he cultivated at a tree farm in Paradise, Texas.
He shared his home, knowledge, and gentle spirit with a multitude of people.
If you didn’t work beside him or live in his house at one time or another…The person next to you certainly did.
His working days slowed, and health struggles persisted until the Good Lord called him home on September 30, 2022.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Billy, Kenneth, and Junior, and his sisters, Louise and Mary Lou.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife Loretta Ward Mitchell, Two sons, Devon and wife (Shirley) Mitchell, Darin and wife (Melinda) Mitchell, Grandchildren, Kelly Mitchell Gardner, husband (Jerrod), Jeff Mitchell and wife (Michelle), Keeton Mitchell, Jordyn Mitchell, Haley Mitchell, and 7 Great Grandchildren, and Sister, Nancy Mitchell Meadows with husband (Roger), as well as many extended family members and friends.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2022 from 4:30 PM- 6:30 PM at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home, located at 5725 Colleyville Blvd, Colleyville, Texas 76034.
There will be a graveside service on Friday, October 7, 2022 at 3:30 PM in the Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park, located at 5725 Colleyville Blvd, Colleyville, Texas 76034.
