Opal Dalalian over her last 92 years was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a wonderful mother and loved by many. Opal was a woman of faith and a woman of prayer who loved the Lord dearly. Her daughters remember the many times she was on her knees praying quietly for her family. She was very blessed to live and see her parents, brothers, husband, daughters and all of her grandchildren come to know the Lord.
Opal was born in Exeter, California on July 31, 1923 to Russell and Cora Batey. She was raised with two brothers, Layton and Dale. She loved swimming and running with them. Opal also enjoyed playing softball - where she eventually met her future husband, Edward.
After having 3 of their 4 children, Opal and Edward packed up their family and went on an adventure of a lifetime by moving to Alaska. They eventually started their own business, Action Tire Center in Anchorage. During these years she helped support the business, gave birth to another daughter and continued to raise their children. Opal enjoyed visiting with her neighbors and attending Calvary Baptist Church with her family.
In 1964 the family experienced The Great Alaska earthquake, registering a 9.2 magnitude. The earthquake struck on Good Friday so all schools were closed. Government Hill Elementary where her children attended was destroyed in the quake. Fortunately, Opal and all of her family members survived.
Their retirement years took them to Carmel, California, where they enjoyed the splendor of their ocean view home for more than 20 years. In 2008, they moved to Texas in order to live closer to 3 of their daughters.
Opal was blessed with four daughters, nine grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Opal passed away on March 13, 2016, in Southlake, Texas. She is survived by her daughters, Sherry Morgan and husband, Royce, Tyra DePalma and husband, Joseph, Colleen Allen and husband, Mike, and Marie Snider and husband, Brian; her brother, Dale Batey and wife, Peggy; her late brother's wife Betty Batey, grandchildren, Nathaniel, Eric, David, Brian, Chris, Heather, Aaron, Ash and Olivia; and many great-grandchildren, Services were held at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home in Colleyville, Texas on Saturday, March 19, 2016. Opal was laid to rest in Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park in Colleyville, Texas next to her husband, Edward, who preceded her in death on June 19, 2015.
Opal will always be remembered as a good and kind hearted person, a woman who would pray diligently for friends and loved ones and shared Christ with others. She leaves behind many cherished memories. With our hope secure in Christ Jesus, we look forward in confidence that we will see Opal again.
