Patricia S. (Mensen) Kitchens (“Pat“ to most, “my bride” to Mike, “Momma” to Jason and Rebekah, and “GiGi” to her amazing and loving grandchildren), aged 72, of Colleyville, Texas, left her earthly realm unexpectedly on Feb. 3, 2026.
Like most of her life, Pat was excited about her future, sitting and talking with the man she was silly enough to agree to marry the 1st year out of high school over 53 years ago (we were such babies ourselves!) about the hidden angels that were helping us fight her recently discovered cancer, our most amazing Christmas celebration EVER where the entire family surprised her by coming home to love and celebrate with her, and the many blessings of our surprisingly wonderful lives together. She was positive that day – she was happy – she was loving, and as usual, she was concerned for the happiness and well-being of others.
Pat was an enthusiastic GiGi, proud Momma, cherished sister, boastful aunt, and she successfully managed the transition from teenaged Kansas sweetheart to loving lifetime Texas wife (and family matriarch)! Her greatest joy in life was her family, especially her children and grandchildren, whom she supported with unwavering love, encouragement, advice, and strength. She had a kind heart, a wonderfully generous spirit, and an ability to make others feel welcomed, appreciated, and cared for.
Pat was known for her beautiful aura, her warm smile, her quick yet goofy wit, big hugs, and her freely offered guidance during both joyful and difficult moments. She found happiness in simple pleasures—time with friends and family, especially at Christmas, long conversations, spirited debates, caring for her horses and ever-present Yorkshire terriers, and creating a home filled with love, warmth, great chili, big pillows, soft blankets and plenty of laughter.
She would be most pleased, even prouder of her life, and likely shed a tear and demand a hug to hear some of the comments provided, without any guidance, by her teenage grandchildren ….
• The sound of her laugh and the picture of her smile constantly replay in my mind.
• Gigi was a bigger blessing than I ever knew. Her laugh was one of the best sounds that lit up every room she walked in.
• Gigi to me was the person I could always rely if I needed wisdom on something.
• One thing I loved about her was that she was constantly trying to teach and better me each and every time I saw her no matter what we were doing.
• She was the place I could go if I needed to get out, she always brought me joy and love when I visited.
• Gigi always made me feel like I had support with doing anything I wanted to do with my life.
• Gigi’s food always gave me a sense of comfort and joy. Her tacos and spaghetti are some of my favorite meals, and her meals always included her very delicious, sweet tea.
• She taught me and my sister how to make many different things homemade, one being her special biscuits.
• One of my favorite memories with her was when I was little we all cuddled up in her bed and watched our classic favorite movies Rango and Barnyard. We shared so many laughs watching those movies.
• She had so many fun stories to tell me when whenever I sat down with her, stories that taught me things, things I couldn’t learn in school.
• Whether it was in the kitchen, car, or anywhere else, with GiGi I was constantly learning something new that I could apply to my life.
• Her love for everyone was so apparent and she showed it in many different ways.
• My favorite meal Gigi would make was definitely chili. Whenever I found out I’d be going to Gigi’s house for Chili I looked forward to the visit even more. Not only because it tastes so good, but because I know it was made with so much love.
• Her hugs were like no other and that is a feeling I will never forget and forever cherish.
• She was my teacher, my home away from home, but above all, she was my Gigi, and I will love her forever.
• She always made me feel loved and I had someone to turn to if I ever needed to.
• I am beyond grateful for the memories made with her and our amazing times together.
• Gigi was like a second mother I always knew was there for me. She helped shape me into who I am today.
• GiGi felt like home.
We will miss Pat – her sudden passing leaves an immeasurable ache and void in our lives today. But we also know she will never truly be gone from us. She is lodged in our memories and our hearts, and she is embedded in the DNA of our kids and the minds and souls of our grandchildren. She will always be with us, and a piece of those lives and generations to follow.
We are Pat too … and that’s a wonderfully comforting and peaceful understanding to have.
