Ralph S. Roper, Jr. of Corinth, Texas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 2, 2020. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was born on August 28, 1932 to Ralph S. Roper, Sr., and Thelma Key Roper in Olton, Texas.
Ralph loved to hunt with his dad, brothers, and sons. They would meet in Archer City, Texas each weekend during quail season. He also loved to fish for rainbow trout when he visited his parent’s cabin in South Fork, Colorado.
Ralph & Beth volunteered with The Volunteer Christian Builders for 31 years. There are many churches in many different states that they helped build or repair. They met so many lifelong and treasured friends during the week of July 4th each year.
In his later years, Ralph loved to do woodworking. Each family member would receive a handmade wooden item for a Christmas present from him and one year it was a complete manger scene that he had carved with a jigsaw.
Ralph is survived by the love of his life, Carol Beth Roper of Corinth, Texas. On August 17th, they would have been married 68 years. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Byrd of Plainview, Texas, his son, Steven Roper (Mary) of Lake Dallas, daughter, Carolyn Roper (Barb) of Norfolk, Virginia, and daughter-in-law Marta of Southlake, Texas. Grandchildren, Holly Patrick (Woody), Julie Elliott (Robert), Rebecca Roper, and great- grandchildren, Logan Patrick, Estella Patrick, Lily Patrick, Katie Grace Elliott, Jackson Elliott, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Billie Roper and Randall Roper, son Jack Roper, and grandson, Jeff Roper.
Visitation will be from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 7, 2020 at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home, 5725 Colleyville Blvd., Colleyville, TX 76034 followed by a graveside service. The service will also be streamed live on Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home and Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park’s Facebook Page.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army of Denton, 1508 E. McKinney, Denton, TX 76209 or https://www.salvationarmyusa.org/usn/. Beth and Ralph worked together and made many sleeping mats out of grocery sacks that they donated to the shelter.
