Rebecca Lanier Kohr of Grapevine, Texas passed away Friday, April 30, 2021 at the age of 81. Becky was joyfully greeted by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and her earthly father, mother, stepmother, and many other relatives and friends who have gone on ahead of Becky
Becky was born on July 23, 1939 in Atlanta, Georgia to Laney Mack Lanier and Margaret Askew Lanier. Becky's mother Margaret died of cancer when Becky was 4 years old, and she was raised until age 7 by several of her fathers nine sisters. At the age of 7 Becky's widowed father Laney Mack Lanier married Gertrude White, a student at Clark College in Newton, Mississippi where Mr. Lanier was Business Manager, and shortly thereafter Becky and her 'new family moved to Clinton, Mississippi when Mr. Lanier was hired as Business Manager at Mississippi College, the oldest Baptist College in Mississippi.
Becky attended and graduated from Clinton High School in the Class of 1957, She then enrolled in Mississippi College (MC), where she worked both in the college bookstore and cafeteria Becky graduated from Mississippi College on May 28, 1961 with a BS degree in Home Economics, minor in Secondary Education. Her father being an ordained Baptist minister, Becky was a member of First Baptist Church of Clinton, but earlier, while still in Newton, Becky had professed her faith in Jesus as her Lord and Savior and been baptized at a younger age.
Becky first met her future husband, C. Gary Kohr, in the MC cafeteria line just before closing time. Gary first noticed the girl with the long dark brown hair standing ahead of him in the line. Gary turned to his friends and said "One day I'm going to marry that girl." On August 26, 1960 Becky and Gary were married at the First Baptist Church in Clinton, Mississippi. After her college graduation in May 1961, Becky's first job was as the Home Economics teacher at the high school in Harrisville, MS. During the course of her life, and as Gary's career progressed, the family moved numerous times living in different locals such as Tallahassee and Panama City, FL; Dayton, OH; Reno, NV, Memphis, TN; Birmingham, AL: Colorado Springs and Denver, CO; Trophy Club and finally, Grapevine, TX. Throughout Becky's life, she worked as a substitute teacher, a retail sales associate, an Executive Assistant to the president of Meridian Minerals coal division in Denver, CO, and finally as an Administrative Assistant with Aetna Health Insurance in Dallas.
Becky also served for several years on the staff of the International Friends Ministry at First Baptist Church in Grapevine, where she met many of her close and beloved friends who she grew to love so dearly. Earlier in life Becky was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). Her passions included her flower gardening, shopping in antique malls, and spending quality time with her beloved family and friends.
Becky was preceded in death by her father Laney Mack Lanier; her birth mother, Margaret Askew Lanier; her stepmother, Gertrude White Lanier; her son-in-law Allen Gilman (Kim's husband): Gary's parents, Curtis Max Kohr and Lila Roth Kohr, Mark Hawkins, son of Gary's sister Jane Hawkins; Louise Kohr, wife of Gary's brother, John Alan Kohr, and Alan's daughter, Leigh Ann Kohr. Becky is survived by her husband of 61 years, C. Gary Kohr; son Jonathan David Kohr (Jon) and his wife, Valerie Fay Kohr; daughter Kimberly Ann Gilman; and five grandsons Taylor Bryan, Austin Bryan, Ethan Gilman, Nic Gilman and Jack Gilman along with her brother, Lauren Lanier (Opal Lanier), brother-in-law, Alan Kohr and sister-in-law, Jane Hawkins (John Hawkins) and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins
There will be a Funeral Service Friday, May 7,2021 at First Baptist Church Keller at 12pm with visitation one hour prior. Burial to follow at 1:30pm in Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park.
