He will always be remembered as a man who loved and lived for his wife, children, grandchildren, and great granddaughter. He was born on October 2, 1944 in Fort Worth, Texas to Clifford and Clara Byars and later entrusted in the care of Leonard and Laura Lou Trammell in Eastland, Texas.
Richard was raised in Eastland, Texas where he played football for the Eastland Mavericks. After graduating high school in 1962 he joined the National Guard and then began his 35 year career with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company where he went from a lineman to a manager. His career moved him to many different cities within Texas, including Hereford, Fort Worth, Granbury, Childress, Wichita Falls and Breckenridge. In Breckenridge he served on the city council and was a member of the Kiwanis Club in Breckenridge and Granbury. He was also a volunteer for Meals on Wheels in Fort Worth.
Richard was an avid golfer for many years until he retired and moved to Fort Worth to be closer to family and a full-time Grandpa. His biggest love was his family. He was the glue that held our family together. He spoiled us with his time and love. He loved gatherings with family that included bbq, noodle salad, and baked beans. He looked forward to outings such as the Fort Worth Stock Show, State Fair and Colonial. He never missed an event for his grandchildren. Richard was always on call for Grandpa Uber duty. He was always up for trips to the zoo, museums, various festivals, or annual summer trips with the grandkids. He loved spending time in Ruidoso with his wife and family going to the horse races and the casino.
Richard never met a stranger, he always met friends. His love of people led him to his retirement job (hobby) at Westside Cafe where he was an iconic figure where he as a host and welcomed everyone into his life with open arms. Richard’s generosity was endless. He was known for picking up frontline workers tabs at lunch and always helping anyone in need. Richard loved to laugh and was ALWAYS telling silly jokes. His quick-witted humor was always front and center, and you didn’t know whether to laugh or run. He was an unexpected angel to many.
Richard is survived by his wife of 47 years, Skye Byars. His four children; son, Rich Byars and wife Amy, daughter, Michelle Schadler and husband Jeremy, daughter, Kara Brown and husband Aaron, and son, Seth Byars and wife Samantha. His four grandchildren, Nicholas Byars, and fiancé Michelle Bach, Brendan and Sophia Brown, Logan Schadler; great granddaughter Athena Byars, and many family and friends.

Although we will miss the jokes, laughter, butt dials, our personal tracking service, random trips to Costco, and endless generosity, we take comfort in the many, many memories we hold in our hearts.
