

Richard Melton, 88 years old, of Hurst, Texas, passed away on Monday, February 24, 2025. He was born in Upshur County, Texas, on July 13, 1936. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Duma and Floyd, Melton, his sister, Flora McDonald, his wife, Tommy Melton, his son, Donald Joe Melton, his stepchildren, Chester McQueery and Johnny Rhode, and by multiple friends. Richard is survived by his brother, Doyle Melton, his nephew, Eddy Melton, his stepsister, Corliss “Corkey” Hogan, and a multitude of friends, to include Melba Jayroe, Dicky White, Brin Richardson, Lynn Richardson, Jerry Green, Charlie Bartec, Josie Dobbins, and many others.
Richard attended New Diana High School, in Diana, Texas, then went on to work as a machinist at Menasco Aerospace from 1956 to 1997. He maintained his connection with the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers since that time. Richard later made a name for himself as the “Scooter Man” when he began selling tools and scooters across Texas. In 1970, Richard started selling goods at First Monday Trade Days in Canton, Texas, and later at Traders Village in Grand Prairie, Texas beginning in 1977.
The life Richard led in connection with others will be honored on Monday, March 3, 2025, at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home in Colleyville, Texas. His visitation will be held at 9:00am in the chapel, followed by his funeral service at 10:00am. Richard will be laid to rest at 11:00am in the Garden of Faith within Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park, next to his late wife and son.
