Hills, TX. He will always be remembered as a loving father, brother, grandfather, and friend to
all that knew and loved him. He was born on February 1, 1939 in Port Huron, Michigan to James
and Irene Greene. Ron went to Graceland College for 2 years and transferred to the University of
Michigan Dearborn where he completed his degree in mechanical engineering.
After graduation, Ron married the love of his life Barbara. They moved to Texas where he
started his distinguished career as an engineer. His career spanned over 40 years with companies
like Northrup Grumman, Motorola, Texas Instruments, Bell Helicopter and finally Lockheed
Martin. He designed many parts for various aircrafts, notably the B-2 bomber and Gulfstream
aircrafts. But of all the engineering designs, nothing could come close to his love of trains.
Ron was an active member of the the North Texas Garden Railroad Club. He would share his
passion of trains with people of all ages, including displays that the Railroad Club set up at
Children’s hospitals in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. He also had a personal display at his home
where many families would enjoy the sight and sounds of a model train. There would be many
times where children in the neighborhood would come over and ask Ron to play trains.
Ron is survived by daughters Deanna VanHook (Tom) and Debra Perrill (Mark), sister-in-law
Judy Cardenas, grandchildren Erika and Emily Atchison and Robert and Laura VanHook, nieces
Margie Beers, Karen Kress, Sally Stewart, nephew Robert Greene II and their families. He was
preceded in death by wife Barbara Greene, mother and father James and Irene Greene, and
brothers Robert and Richard Greene.
