

Roy Milburn Mires, 81, of Keller, Texas, passed away on January 4, 2025. Born in Lubbock, Texas, on February 17, 1943, Roy was raised in Plainview, Texas. He graduated in 1965 from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture. Roy proudly served in the United States Army for seven years after completing his education.
Upon his return to civilian life, he began a successful career in the corporate world. In 1965, he joined Mobil Oil Corporation, and in 1968, he transitioned to work for Allstate Insurance in Dallas, Texas. Over the years, Roy’s career in the insurance industry flourished. He served as the Claims Manager for Members Insurance for 15 years, and continued his work in the field until 2000, when he opened his own independent claims agency.
Roy retired in 2014 after years of dedicated service to his profession.Although Roy was a private person, he was known for his deep love of family and his willingness to help others. He enjoyed coaching little league baseball and football, and in the 1970s, he served as the president of the Keller Youth Association. Through these roles, Roy impacted many young lives, guiding them with patience, encouragement, and a genuine care for their well-being. Roy had a lifelong passion for owning and racing horses. He was enthusiastic about the sport and enjoyed being involved in the racing community. He was also an avid fan of all things Texas Tech Red raiders. Additionally, Roy loved to travel, especially going on cruises, where he explored new places with his family. His love for his family was boundless, and he treasured the time spent with them. Roy was a devoted member of Birdville Baptist Church, where his faith and involvement were central to his life.
Roy was married to his loving wife, Chelia Rush Mires, and together they raised three children: the late Debbie Diane Mires Gutierrez, Sherry Lynn Sims, and Jason Delbert Mires and his wife Debbie. He was a proud grandfather to Derek Randall Gutierrez and is survived by his sister, Leta Merle Hatch. He was preceded in death by his parents, Delbert W. Mires and Frankie Sybel Mires, and by four brothers and one sister. Roy’s family and friends will remember him for his quiet strength, his unwavering support, and his generosity of spirit. He was a man who loved deeply, worked tirelessly, and cared for others without seeking recognition. Roy’s legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know him.
Services for Roy will be held on Friday, January 17th, at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home & Memorial Park. Visitation will begin at 11, Funeral will start at 1 p.m., and following his service Roy will be laid to rest in the cemetery. Roy will be dearly missed but forever cherished in the memories of his loved ones.
