

Russell (Russ) Edwin Rumney passed away Monday, May 11, 2020 at his home, surrounded by family, in Euless, Texas. Russ will be remembered by family and friends as an amazing father, husband, avid runner, church community participant, and Morrisdale Estates Community Leader. He was admired and loved by many people, especially his wife, Dorothy, five children, eight grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Russ was born on May 4, 1932 in San Diego, CA to Walter and Maxine Rumney and resided in Coronado, CA. He graduated from Coronado High School in 1950. The University of Arizona awarded him a 4-year track scholarship and he graduated in 1954 in the ROTC program with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education.
He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant into the US Army on May 26, 1954. Russ and Dorothy Jane Wood were married four days prior to his commission on May 22 and they would have been celebrating their 66th wedding anniversary this year.
Russ had a successful military career with worldwide travels, serving in the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was assigned twice in Germany and in many locations all over the United States. His awards and decorations include, Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with 1960 device and Master Aviator Wings.
He retired from the Army in 1974 as a Lieutenant Colonel and started a second career of 24 years with Bell Helicopter in Hurst, Texas. He retired in early 2000 and remained busy with family and his community interests. He is survived by his wife Dorothy, 5 children; Christy Linders, Russell Rumney Jr., Cherie Scheppner (David), Randy Rumney (Cindy) and Cathie Darwin (Jim), 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Russell E. Rumney Scholarship Fund mailed to Coronado Schools Foundation 201 6th Street, Coronado, CA. 92118 or St. Vincent’s Episcopal Church at 1300 Forest Ridge Drive, Bedford, TX 76022.
