Sam was born on September 4, 1942 to Herbert L. Kerbow and Maureen Biggerstaff-Kerbow in Stillwater, OK. Sam graduated from Sherman High School in Sherman, TX, in 1960 where he was a member of the Sherman Bearcat’s baseball team. He attended Arlington State Jr. College, now UTA and graduated from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor’s degree in business.
Sam was hired to work on the assembly line at General Motors in Arlington in 1963. During his 35 year tenure at GM, he worked in several different areas. He moved into several different departments, including, security, personnel, and retired in 1998 working in the labor relations department. He was known by his co-workers to burst into song at any given moment and was well known for his infamous Box Car Willie train whistle.
Sam never met a stranger, he loved people and enjoyed amusing anyone who would listen to his stories and tales, be they fact or fiction, just to watch their reaction, and he always brought a smile to their faces. He was loved by all, young and old alike.
He loved his friends, his family and he loved playing golf and hunting for stray golf balls that he shared with his golf buddies. As one of his good friends said of him “he was one of the good guys.” Sam enjoyed giving generously to friends and acquaintances who were in financial need. He was indeed a honorable man, great father and grandfather and a very special brother.
Survivors: daughters, Kendra Kerbow, Kayla Kerbow-Margo and husband Randy, two grandchildren whom he adored, Ryan Margo and Gracyn Margo. A sister Martha Kerbow-Lee and husband C. Doyle, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and a very special friend of more than forty years, Terri Phillips.
The family would like to thank Community Hospice for their very special care of Sam during the last few days of his life as well as friends and neighbors who were very good and attentive to him.
Adios and Happy Trails Sam, until we meet again. We love you and we will miss you.
