Samuel Williams Carmack V, age 74, passed away on September, 24, 2026, in Bedford, TX. He was born on September 15, 1952 in Altus, OK to Robert S Carmack and Oleta Stephens Carmack. He was raised in Hinton, OK and graduated from Hinton High School, class of 1970, Baylor University with a BA in 1974, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master’s in Theology in1977, and a PhD in New Testament Studies in 1985.
He married Nancy White Carmack in 1978 and the couple had two children, Will and Laura. Through the years he was a pastor, a professor, a missionary in Brazil, a church planter, helping plant many churches in Brazil and in Texas. He also pastored the First Baptist Church of Chattanooga, OK and Springfield Baptist Church in Springfield, KY. He was the founding pastor of Bear Valley Community Church in Colleyville, TX, which he started in 1991.
Sam enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids. He played chess with many of them.
He enjoyed flying our private plane, a Piper Arrow III; going on long family trips in our big RV; listening to his wife play the piano; reaching people for the Lord; apologetics (the systematic intellectual defense and reasoned explanation of Christianity). He was the first person of anyone we knew who mastered the computer, having gotten his first in 1977. He also played the saxophone, and, remarkably, was a professional magician.
We will always remember him as brilliant, interesting and funny, with a dry sense of humor.
And he was so very caring, He always thought of others before himself. And his main quality; generosity.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Oleta Carmack.
He is survived by his sister, Pat Carmack Ross and his brother, Robert Stephen Carmack; his wife, Nancy White Carmack and his children Samuel Williams Carmack VI and wife Bailey Jo Carmack, and Laura Katherine Maxwell and husband Ryan Maxwell; and his grandchildren Nell, Liam and Ransom.
Visitation will be held at Bear Valley Community Church, 7900 Precinct Line Rd, Colleyville, TX 76034, US, on October 3, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, followed by the Funeral Service at the same location on October 3, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
