Lewis went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 17, 2025.
Lewis was born on September 11, 1938 in Bradley, Arkansas to Lewis P. Compton and Mattie Beatrice “Sue” Compton. Lewis graduated from Lewisville High School in Lewisville, Arkansas in 1957 and then enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served the majority of his time in the Air Force in England.
After returning to the United States, he began working at Oaklawn Bank in Texarkana, Texas. It was there that Lewis met Paula Raye Stanphill. They were married on September 8, 1963. Lewis and Paula had two daughters: Paige and Candace.
Lewis had an illustrious 50+ year career in the banking industry. He worked himself up from being a loan officer to bank president, but he cherished his time working as a Senior Bank Examiner with the Texas Department of Banking for over 20 years most of all.
Lewis was an avid fisherman his entire life, even winning tournaments for catching the largest bass. During retirement, Lewis LOVED to go fishing near Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and went as often as he could. Lewis was also a huge fan of college football, especially the Arkansas Razorbacks. One thing Lewis loved to do for his family and friends was make his homemade pepperoni pizza. He was quite proud of his recipe and with good reason… it was delicious! Most of all, though, Lewis loved his two daughters more than anything in the world.
Lewis is survived by his daughters: Paige Scarbrough (Mike) and Candace Compton; grandchildren: Alex Ferguson and Savanna Scarbrough; sister, Gale Candler (James) and her children: Alan Tippett, Donna Srebalus, Pamela Dennington, and John Wicker. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents Lewis P. and Sue Compton, and brothers Lonnie, Donnie, and Roger Dale Compton.
Graveside services will be held at 12pm, Friday, November 14, 2025 at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park in Colleyville, TX
