Samuel Vincent Haynes CPA, 85, died on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at home surrounded by his family. He leaves his wife of 60 years, Pamela Carter Haynes; children, Tracy Haynes LeGrand and husband Kevin, Scott Haynes and wife Leann; grandchildren, Danielle LeGrand-King and husband Christopher, Aaron Leal, Corie Haynes and Emma Haynes and numerous nieces and nephews. Sam is preceded in death by his granddaughter Jacquelyn LeGrand; sisters, Martha Milan, and Elaine Peterson. Sam was born in Dallas, TX. in 1931 to Samuel P Haynes and Vera Cochran Haynes. As a young man he loved to play baseball, hunt, fish with his grandmother and he was a body builder. He was a regular at the Dallas Gym and appeared in body building magazines in the 1950’s. He attended Stephen J Hay Elementary School in Dallas. After graduating from Woodrow Wilson High school he attended SMU and graduated with a master’s degree in Accounting. Sam met his wife when he was set up on a blind date by his sister Martha. The next day his grandmother found a ticket stub for a picture that was made on their date and had it developed without his knowledge. She wanted to see who the mystery woman was in his life, they were married 3 months later. After college, Sam went to work for Braniff Airlines in Dallas and for 20 years he held various management positions. In the late 70’s he became the general manager at Braniff Airways Federal Credit Union. Under his guidance, the credit union remained in business after the fall of the airlines. Sam loved to spend time with family and for years he spent Saturday evenings playing Canasta and Hearts with friends. During his retirement he was active in the Sons of the American Revolution and was past president of Denton #23 Texas Society of the SAR. He was a member of the Sons of the Republic of Texas and a former member of the Denton Historical Society. He was lovingly referred to as “Sonny, Papa and the Ice Cream Man.”
