Terry David Blaies (86) of Bedford, Texas passed away with family at his bedside on May 26, 2025. Terry was born in Belleville, Illinois on December 23, 1938. He graduated from Belleville Township High School (Class of 1957) and was the first in his family to attend college, receiving his Sociology degree from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale and his Masters in Sociology and Psychology from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville.
He met and married the love of his life, Beverly (nee Burton) and they raised two sons, Greg and Grant. Terry taught civics and psychology at Belleville East High School for thirty years until his retirement in 1994. After he retired from teaching, he and Beverly moved to Texas to be close to their sons and soon to be 5 grandchildren.
He was “Papa” to his grandchildren and to Papa his grandchildren were everything. He and Beverly (Mama) made it a priority to be involved in their lives. They loved Papa and are better for having him in their lives. Terry was an entertainer. His passion was playing the guitar and singing. He never went anywhere without his guitar or ukulele and would entertain anyone at any time. In Belleville he was actively involved in barbershop quartet singing.
After his move to Texas, he became a proud member of the renowned A Cappella Chorus, The Vocal Majority. In his later life, he wrote a song: Hallelujah the Angels Sing. His loved ones can now take comfort in knowing that he no longer only hears the angels sing but has now joined their heavenly choir. Terry lived his life spreading joy. He was loved dearly and will be missed.
He is preceded in death by his wife Beverly, his parents Rose (nee Kolar) and Clifford, and his brother Kenneth Blaies. He is survived by his sons Greg (Kimberlee) and Grant (Pamela), his beloved grandchildren Bailey, Greyson, Cameron, Regan, and Caden, and his nieces Lauren (Blowers) and Susan Blaies, and nephew Keith Blaies.
A celebration of life for Terry will be held Saturday, June 14, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home, 5725 COLLEYVILLE BLVD, COLLEYVILLE, TX 76034.
