Outside of his career, Tom served as a Councilman of the City of Richland Hills from 1981 – 1986. His passion outside of work was enjoying his miniature horses when living in Richland Hills.

His company, DynCorp grew to become the largest independent military support service contractor in the United States. Before his retirement in 1996, Tom received multiple and rare commendations from the military for his consistent quality services as a contractor, and a distinguished service award for his performance as an employee role model within DynCorp.
