Known as Tom or Tommy, his final wishes were to have this as his obituary that he wrote himself:
Well, I finally made it home. Now I will get to see the people that have gone before me that I loved so much (my Daddy, Mother, my Uncle Johnnie, and Aunt Ethyl). I hope everyone is happy for me.
There are two people that I will miss so dearly, my son, Thomas, and my daughter, Julie. They have been my whole life for the past 20 years plus. I have thanked God so many times for allowing me and their mother to be their parents. The joy that they brought to my life is immeasurable. Both Thomas and Julie have grown up to be the wonderful, loving, and caring people I hoped they would be. I am so very proud of them.
Then my daughter and outstanding son-in-law, Nick, gave me two unbelievable grandchildren, Clarie and Matthew. What a wonderful gift! Both are very intelligent, talented, and loving grandchildren. I am so proud of them. Julie, you are a marvelous and loving mother.
Thomas got married to a wonderful, beautiful woman, Rachel. They are living their best life in California which makes me so happy. I am positive that you will make an outstanding husband and I am so proud of the man that you have become.
What a wonderful first family I had, my daddy, mother, and sister, Betty Jane. My sister’s family of Bill Morris, my special niece Jennie and nephew Billy. Then there are my other wonderful nieces and nephew, Nancy, Allison, and Scott. I must also mention all my Aunts, Uncles and cousins that I grew up with and had such a wonderful time.
My Ball High School years were unbelievable. No one deserves the years I had. I was so lucky to have so many friends. You all were so good to me. My college years were also unbelievable. I especially have very good memories of my Delt fraternity brothers and their wives. I can’t forget to mention all my special friends in Galveston, especially my good golfing buddies. My whole life has been incredible! No one deserves to be as lucky as I have been. Be happy for me. I thank God for allowing me to serve this great country of ours. The most beautiful things in the world cannot be heard or touched, it must be felt with the heart.
Please no flowers. Please give to St. Jude Hospital, Wounded Warriors, the Humane Society, or the Sam Houston University Baseball program. You never loose someone as long as they remain in your heart. All of you will remain in my heart, especially Tomtom and Juju!! I also can’t forget, Clarie, Matthew, Nick, and Rachel.
May God always be with you all and your families.
