Thomas R. "Tom" Smith of Frisco, Texas departed from this life on March 9, 2026. A native Texan, he was born on October 15, 1946, in Fort Worth, Texas. He grew up in Fort Worth and graduated from Texas Christian University. Tom married his wife, Jayne (Griffis) Smith in June of 1970 and they remained married for more than 55 years until his passing. Tom was employed in the steel industry for most of his career, working for Kilsby Roberts for 14 years, and then for Niagra LaSalle Steel where he was Vice President of Sales and retired in 2020.
Tom was a fan of TCU Football and the Chicago Bears, Blackhawks, and White Sox. Tom was always quick with a smile, a joke, and a story. He saved the twinkle in his eyes and teasing words for the people he liked the most. Together, Tom and Jayne built long-lasting friendships first in Texas during their early marriage, then in Valparaiso, Indiana where they lived for 18 years, and finally back in Texas where they moved to be near their children. Tom and Jayne enjoyed traveling with friends, and when they went as a couple made fast friends with people they met on the way. Most importantly, together Tom and Jayne had three children, Laura, Jay, and Eric. He was a wonderful father to his children and Poppy to his grandchildren.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents Robert "Bob" Smith and Anna Belle “Ann” (Arnold) Smith. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jayne, daughter Laura Lang and son-in-law John, son Robert "Jay" Smith and daughter-in-law Renee, son Eric Smith and daughter-in-law Shiloh, grandchildren Isabelle Smith, Sydney Lang, Tyler Smith, and Wyatt Lang, brother William "Bill" Smith and sister-in-law Deborah, and many family and friends. Tom’s family thanks the doctors and nurses at Baylor Scott and White Centennial for the excellent care that they gave to Tom and to the family.
