Vera Sidney Wooten, 84, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at her home in Watauga, Texas, surrounded by her loved ones. Vera was born on February 1, 1941, to Hal and Agnes Sharber in Mount Vernon, Texas. She spent her early years in Sulphur Springs, where she attended Sulphur Springs High School, and graduated with the class 1958. The following year, in 1959, she married Sonny Wooten, with whom she was married for 36 years.
In 1968, they moved to Watauga, Texas where she lived the rest of her life. Vera dedicated her career outside of the home to the grocery business, working diligently until her retirement in 2008 at the age of 67.
Vera had many passions throughout her life — she loved being with her family, gardening, sewing, painting, and took great pride in maintaining her beautiful home. Her warm smile, generous heart, sense of humor, and nurturing spirit brought comfort and joy to all who knew her.
She will be deeply missed by her family, who will forever cherish her smile and the light and love she brought into their lives.
Vera is survived by her daughter, Kay James (Robert); sons, Steve Wooten and Mike Wooten (Debbie); grandchildren, Josh Wooten (Taylor), Elisa James (fiancé Brian Hathaway), Tiffany Broome (Justin), Clay James (Molly), and Kassady James; sister, Linda Neal; and brother, Harold Sharber.
