Violet Bunch, 88, of Bedford, Texas, passed away comfortably and peacefully in her home after losing her battle with kidney disease. Violet was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents; her husband, Hal; and her sister, June. She is survived by her children, Keith Bunch and his wife, Suzanne, of Bridgeport, Texas, and Kazey Fyffe and her wife, Vanessa, of Euless, Texas; her sister Mary “Dockie” of Arizona; her sister Tommi of California; and many nieces and nephews.
Violet was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, where she met her future husband, Hal Bunch, after he moved from rural Kentucky to find work. She and Hal married in 1956, and they spent their lives together in Chicago, then Colleyville, Texas, and Runaway Bay, Texas.
Violet was a gifted student who graduated early from high school. After graduation, she became a switchboard operator and worked on roller skates so she could move quickly around the floor. She originally aspired to be a nurse, but she ultimately found her calling in banking. She built a long and successful career in the field and retired as a bank vice president.
After retirement, she and Hal moved to Runaway Bay, where they enjoyed remodeling and renovating their homes together. Violet also formed and ran a water board that helped bring city water to residents in parts of Runaway Bay.
Violet enjoyed reading, watching crime shows, doing crossword puzzles, playing solitaire, sewing, interior decorating, and DIY renovations. After Hal passed away in 2022, she moved to Bedford, where she spent her remaining years.
Violet was known for her altruism and gentle spirit, always standing up for the underdog. She was strong, spirited, feisty, and never afraid to speak her mind. She was always willing to share her knowledge and wisdom, making her memorable to everyone who knew her. She was extremely resilient—repeatedly beating the odds and defying doctors’ prognoses at every turn. The caregivers who supported Violet in her final years came to cherish her attitude and warm smile and regard her as a friend rather than a patient. They described her as good and kindhearted, and they mourn her loss as well.
In keeping with Violet’s wishes, the family has chosen private cremation and no memorial service. In lieu of plants or flowers, donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation in her name at https://kidneytribute.rallybound.org/violetbunch
Violet was a force of nature who commanded attention in any room she entered. She will be deeply missed.
