Virginia Yap Mendiola, of Wheeler, TX died peacefully in her sleep on June 8, 2023 after a long battle with dementia. Virginia was born on April 8, 1938 to Faustino and Dionysia Yap in the Philippines. Her father was a Colonel in the Philippine military and later became a high school math teacher. Her mother raised Virginia and her 3 sisters. Through their support, Virginia became the first nurse in the family graduating from Far Eastern University in Manila and completing her internship at the University of Baguio School of Nursing. She had a storied career as a nurse. At one time, early in her career, she was the private nurse to the First Lady of the Philippines! In America, she was the charge nurse of the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit at the prestigious Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN where she managed the sickest of the sick. However one of the greatest joys that came from her work was meeting the love of her life, Dr Louie Luciano Mendiola, in the OR. They wed in Manila, Philippines and went on to have two boys, Vincent and Rocky. They created a wonderful life in what became their beloved hometown of Wheeler, TX. When Vincent came, Virginia decided to dedicate her life to motherhood. She created a life full of adventure, love, kindness, and full tummies. She loved to cook and loved to share. She excelled at propping up others and supporting them through the many passions and difficulties in their lives. And she did this with grace, respect, and prayer. We will miss our mother, Virginia Mendiola, greatly. Virginia was predeceased by her husband, Dr Louie Luciano Mendiola, and her sister Barbara Baldemor. Virginia is survived by her first son, Vincent, and his wife, Melissa. They reside in Hurst, TX. Together they have 3 children, Hunter, age 24, Ashley, age 21, and Chloe, age 17. Virginia is also survived by her second son, Rocky, and his wife, Rosemary, of St Petersburg, FL. Together they have 2 children, Magnolia, age 14, and Josephine, age 12. She is also survived by many nieces & nephews whom she treated and loved as her own. A visitation will be held on June 13th starting at 5:00 pm in Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home in Colleyville, TX.
