It is difficult to find words to express my regret at the death of this splendid man.  Bill used that word  "splendid" himself quite often as I recall.   We enjoyed many a trial designing and programming business computer systems together at Bell Helicopter.  Bill never lost his sense of humor no matter the problem and managed himself as a true professional at all times.   
Bill was an excellent father, poker player, raconteur, friend, and sports enthusiast.   No doubt he will continue to keep an eye on North  Carolina.  
Bill combined charm, energy and the highest integrity.  We can be comforted in the knowledge he lives in the  minds and hearts of everyone who knew him.  
My heartfelt sympathy goes out to  Annie, Mark, Scott and family.
