Winnie Mitford of Grapevine, Texas went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, March 6, 2018. Winnie will be remembered for being a friend to everyone she met. She loved to meet new people and sit and visit. Her grandchildren will always remember the delicious shortbread cookies she would make and bring for them at Christmas. Winnie lived a blessed life and lived in many different countries. She grew up in British Guyana, South America and was married to Eugene Mitford.
Eugene Mitford of Grapevine, Texas went to be with the Lord November 1, 2018 at the age of 86. Eugene or “Gene” as his friends called him, lived a blessed life and will be remembered for his outgoing, friendly personality, as he made friends wherever he went. He always had a positive outlook even in sickness; he lived his life with the glass half full always. He was married to Babee Winnifred “Winnie” Alli in 1958.
Eugene and Winnie moved to London England so that Gene could continue his education and they remained there for 12 years. They had two sons, Paul and Mark while living in England for 13 years. Eugene and Winnie then moved to Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada where Gene went into business for himself. They finally moved to South Texas in the Rio Grande Valley where the weather was more tropical like where they grew up in British Guyana.
Winnie and Gene were active members of St. Peter & St. Paul Episcopal Church in Mission, Texas where Gene was head usher. Winnie was a wonderful seamstress, had a green thumb for growing citrus trees, large poinsettias, bougainvillea and many other beautiful plants. She always made a wonderful curry for her family when they came to visit. Gene was a wonderful servant of God and would always invite people to worship at their Church wherever they went. They spent the last few years of their life in Grapevine, Texas near their son Mark. Gene and Winnie were married for 59 years.
Winnie and Gene are survived by their: sons: Paul of The Woodlands, TX , his wife Nelly, son Mark of Grapevine, TX, and his wife Melinda, grandchildren; Joshua, Gabriella, Morgan, and Madison, sister; Merlyn Shivcharin.
