Bailey Grace Purkey was born December 17, 1998 and went home to be with her Savior on January 12, 2020. Bailey graduated from Briarcrest Christian School in 2017 where she ran track and cross country and was a member of the youth group at the Orchard Church. Upon graduation, she enrolled at the University of Mississippi. She was an active member of the Phi Mu sorority at Ole Miss and loved nothing more than being in Oxford with her sorority sisters. It was her happy place. She was majoring in Nutrition and Dietetics and planned on going to nursing school after graduation and pursuing a career as an NICU nurse.

Bailey loved babies and young children and was employed by Need-A-Sitter in Memphis where she quickly became one of their most sought-after sitters, often being asked to take on the most difficult assignments! She always did with the beautiful smile and sense of humor that she possessed. She also babysat for several young families in Oxford whose babies captured her heart. She looked forward to seeing them often and would always report back to her mom how much they had grown and developed.

She leaves behind her parents, Randy and Gretchen Purkey, her brother Jake Purkey and sister Mary C. Purkey, all of Collierville TN, her grandparents Lee and Connie Purkey of Collierville TN and Ted and Bea Snazelle of Clinton MS as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services will be Thursday January 16th at 2:00pm at Crossroads Baptist Church with visitation beginning at 11:30am. Burial immediately following at Magnolia Cemetery in Collierville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent in Bailey’s name to the Small Cell Ovarian Cancer Foundation (smallcellovarian.org).

One of my favorite memories I have with Bail is when I went to the beach with her and the whole Purkey family. We were in 7th grade and glued to the hip. On the trip, she shared her gourmet secret recipe with me and we ate it every morning: a fudge poptart with butter (10 seconds in the microwave). Every time I eat pop tarts I think of her and her advanced culinary skills. I will love you and your quirky and fun self forever, Bailey! See you so soon

Bailey lived on the same floor as my roommate and I freshman year. She always had a smile on her face whenever we would see her across the hall or when we would chat in the bathroom. She has touched the lives of many in Oxford; my thoughts and prayers go out to her family and loved ones.

Randy and Gretchen, we've lost touch over the years, but we used to be in the Brand's young married class with you guys. Just wanted you both to know how saddened we are for your loss and to let you know we will be praying for you guys and your families. May you feel God's arms around you this day and the days to come. Love to you both.

Bailey was one of Taylor's first friends when we moved to TN. They spent a lot of time together in elementary school and I especially remember them hanging out together at their 4th grade Turkey Trot! Our hearts break for your family. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Gretchen & Randy, my heart aches for you and your family with the unimaginable loss of your beautiful girl. When moving from Louisiana to Collierville, Bailey was an instant friend to Lauren, and your entire family to all of us for that matter. Although we were only able to share a couple of years together as neighbors & friends, the impact was longlasting. I can't tell you how excited we were to run into Bailey at Ole Miss and to know she would be going there too! I love that God brought their paths together again. When I think about Bailey, I see the sweet little girl with the beautiful blonde hair and precious smile like in this picture. We are praying for you to feel God's peace and comfort through this time. ~ The Schott Family

I didnt know Bailey too well, but KK Mohler used to drive me to school and she parked next to Bailey. Bailey was always more than kind to me and being two years younger and a new student, it meant the world to me. Rest easy, beautiful.

We are devastated & heartbroken for our sweet friends, Randy & Gretchen. It was always so fun to see Bailey tailgating with us in the Grove. We will miss her big smile so very much & it definitely leaves a huge void. We love y’all & are earnestly praying for God to cover you in his perfect peace & amazing grace! Hotty Toddy Bailey!
