

Billy Dean O’Bar, 70, of Germantown, TN passed away September 8, 2016, following an eight year battle with lymphoma. He was born December 6, 1945 in Paris, AR. He was a graduate of the University of Arkansas, earning a degree in Poultry Science. After college, Billy became a pilot in the Air Force where he flew the F-102 and C-123 aircraft from 1968-1973. He earned a Distinguished Flying Cross while serving in Vietnam.
Billy joined FedEx in 1973 and was there for 32 years until his retirement in 2006. He flew the Falcon, 727, DC-10 and A300, and was also a flight standards manager, line check airman and flight instructor. He kept busy in retirement as a church volunteer, assistant scout master with Troop 64, and supporter of his children’s school activities and sports teams.
He was an avid and prolific gardener, well known for his tomatoes, watermelon and blueberries, and he was always happy to share the harvest. Most of all, he loved being with his family and was grateful for the time he had with his children and grand baby this summer as his health declined.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bobbie and Elmo O’Bar. He was loved by and will be missed by his wife Susan; children Will O’Bar (Kim), Sam O’Bar, Katie O’Bar, and Matthew O’Bar, granddaughter Juniper and sister Shirley (David).
Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. and funeral services will follow at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 14 at Church of the Holy Apostles (Episcopal) on 1380 Wolf River Blvd, Collierville, TN. Burial will follow at the West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, 4000 Forest Hill Irene Road. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Church of the Holy Apostles or Baptist Reynolds Hospice House.
