Douglas Forrey Stilwell, age 72, of Collierville, Tennessee passed away on Saturday, September 27, 2025. He was born to Eleanor L. Stilwell and Neil C. Stilwell, Jr. in Kokomo, Indiana on April 12, 1953. Doug was raised in Tipton, Indiana and graduated from Tipton High School in 1971. He received his Bachelor's of Science in Forestry from Purdue University in 1975 and a Master's of Science in Industrial Administration in 1976. In 1977, Doug began work as a forester in Washington state. For the next 43 years, he worked in the forest products industry as a forester and then as an Environmental Health and Safety professional for Weyerhaeuser, Union Camp, and International Paper, retiring in 2020. The work was global in scope, led to extensive travel, and gave him a feeling of having contributed to a greener world.
Doug was an Eagle Scout, a summer camp counselor, and a member of the Purdue All-American Marching Band. He enjoyed playing tennis, and later in life, golf. He and his younger brother, Craig, enjoyed many golf days at good courses across the country. It was on one of these trips that Doug met his lovely wife of 38 years, Joan. He is survived by Joan, his daughter, Suzanne, his brothers: Carl, Mark, and Craig, and his stepfather, David Lacy.
At his request, there will be no services. He will be, as he wished, remembered fondly by his friends and family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Baptist Reynolds Hospice House in Collierville and the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
