Dudley Cooper Williamson, Jr., of Germantown, Tn., passed away Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at the age 72. He was born in Agana, Guam January 4, 1949 to Dudley C. and Maria Manalissay Williamson. His dad was a government employee sent to the South Pacific to build a steam plant on the US Navy base in Guam. There he met and married Dudley’s mother and eventually moved back home to Water Valley, Ms. when Dudley was about 14.
Dudley loved anything electronic and always had the latest gadgets and cameras. He could install or fix anything electronic. Even in ICU the Dr. was quizzing him about different alarm systems.
He graduated from Water Valley high school in 1967 and later graduated from Ole Miss. He also served in the National Guard. Matter of fact when he was in basic training in Ft Polk, La. He was in line to climb the poles. The instructor was not paying attention when Dudley climbed up and down the pole in no time flat. The instructor had him do it again, then asked him “how did you do that so fast”? Dudley replied with his big smile, “I’m from Guam and as a kid we climbed coconut and papaya trees every day”!
Dudley retired as a manager from ADT Security, with 28 years and was later business partners with System Specialists, Dyna Pel Systems and most recently Tech Services, USA.
Dudley never met a stranger. He always greeted you with that Big Smile. He also had an infectious laugh that would fill the room. We always enjoyed having him around. He once went to a comedy club with friends and the audience was laughing with Dudley more than at the comedian on stage. He laughed so much that he turned his chair over and the comedian, THE John Candy accused Dudley of stealing his show.
Dudley was preceded in death by his parents, Dudley and Maria Williamson, sisters Bennett Craigo, and Dolly Williamson. He is survived by one brother James Williamson of Atmore, Ala., a son Gregory Williamson (Eliza) of Memphis, Tn. , a granddaughter, Samantha Williamson of Rosemount, Minnesota, and a very special life partner Jonnie Person of Germantown, Tn. , Many family members and friends.
Memorial Services will be Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at Collierville Funeral Home, 534 W. Poplar, Collierville, Tn. Visitation will be from 1pm until 2pm with the memorial service starting at 2pm. Burial will be Wednesday , July 21, 2021 at 11am, at Oak Hill Cemetery, Blackmur Dr., Water Valley, Ms.
