Elizabeth A. “Beth” Beauchene (nee Thomas)

Beth passed away on March 12, 2011 at the age of 68. She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Roy Beauchene, daughters Kelly (Rob) Guglielmi and Lynn (Andrew) Steinke and son Brion (Tina) Beauchene. She was an adoring Grandmother of 6 wonderful grandsons Anthony and Nicholas Guglielmi, Alexander and Michael Beauchene, Benjamin and Jack Steinke.

Beth was born in Detroit Michigan on Sept 27, 1942 to Irma (Seppala) Thomas and Charles Thomas. Beth attended Detroit schools until 12 years old when her family moved up to Laurium Michigan in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. She graduated from Calumet High School with the class of 1960 and spent her summers working at the Fanny Hooe Resort. She married Roy and raised her 3 children in St. Francis and worked at Willow Glen School as the secretary to the principal for 19 years. Elizabeth influenced the schools efficiency and had a great impact on the kids. In 1994 Roy and Beth moved to Collierville, TN where she lived in her dream home until her passing. She enjoyed decorating her home, gardening, bird watching and reading. She spent time in the summers at their cottage in the Keweenaw Peninsula. Roy and Beth made numerous friends in TN. They also reconnected with a number of great friends from high school following retirement.

Beth loved her grandsons, children and their spouses dearly and was always a young woman at heart. She loved her rescue dogs Lucy and Irving. Beth will be missed by all of those who knew her and will be remembered for her empathy with others, young spirit and tell it as it is nature.

In lieu of memorials, a donation to her favorite St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital ( would be appreciated. A memorial service for Beth will be held in Wisconsin later this spring and she will be interred at Lakeview Cemetery in Calumet, MI.

We light this eternal candle for Beth Beauchene, who was a very dear Friend and considered a part of our family as she considered us a part of her family. We thought and thought about what are the right words to say but there were none that seemed to be appropriate for her and her life. Beth was Beth and if you liked her or didn't she really did not give two hoots in hell. We loved her as she was, beautiful soul, great Mother, Grandmother, and Friend. We will miss her so very much. Please God be with her husband, Roy and her Family to get through this difficult time. Jack and I are always here for all of you. God Bless You and hopefully Beth doesn't give to much guff above.LOL. I first met Beth in 1994 when her and Roy moved South to Collierville, I thought Oh No there goes the neighborhood! But as
time went on I came to know what a precious gift I had in my neighbors and 17 years later we still live here, side by side.
I think they liked that I was a 'yank' too and they are Yoopers :). My own family lives far away, and Beth and Roy became
like family. As time went on I became very close to Beth and she helped me through some tough times. Beth would not always
agree with me but she would always support me no matter what, a true friend.

Beth was a truely amazing and unique person. She was fiercely loyal and loved her family more than anything. She was so proud of all of them and they were what mattered most to her. Over the years I got to meet them and see Beth in them, they will carry on her escense. Beth loved to entertain, her and Roy had many long-time friends they cherished and many new young friends who enjoyed their company.

Last week, my husband Grant and I spent alot of time with her family and friends all gathered together at the house. Beth
had a fabulous and witty sense of humor, a gift really, and loved a good story and we spent hours telling them about her (there are so many great memories!). We celebrated Beths life and what it meant to us and how she touched all of our hearts. Beth was a strong, independent, passionate rebel and would tell it like it is. She had a knack for coming up with funny euphemisms and unique nicknames that always made us laugh no matter how many times we heard them :). She was extremely smart and always remembered names, places and facts no one else could.

My family and I love Beth dearly and feel very lucky that she was in our lives. Its springtime, her favorite season, and I
will miss seeing her outside, tending to her Roses. I will miss going next door to hang out with my beloved friend and talk and laugh for hours, sitting at the kitchen table. I will miss seeing her lovely face and hearing her voice, which was sometimes full of fiestiness and sometimes full of compassion. I turned to her often for a shoulder or just for good company.
I will miss her my whole life.

I have many fond memories of "Aunt" Beth - we are so sorry for your loss.

March 20, 2011

Dear Roy; children and grandchildren;

She may have been properly named Elizabeth, but I remember Beth as being the epitome of a special, happy, funny, caring, and generous Beth. She is a bonding glue of every magic Calumet High School memory that can never be erased. I'm sure that she's raising a bit of ruckus waiting for the rest of the class of '60. Take good care of each of you. Jeannine "Butch St. Germain Blough
