Gary E. Meyerrose, MD., FACC, passed away in Memphis, Tennessee, Monday, November 25, 2024, leaving behind a life dedicated to Medicine, education and faith.
Born on February 1,1950 in St. Louis, Missouri. Gary graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a degree in Chemistry in 1972 and earned his medical degree from the University of Tennessee in 1976. Following a residency in internal medicine, he began his practice in Memphis alongside Dr. Gibson. He later earned board certifications in Nuclear Medicine, PET Scans and Geriatric Cardiology through further studies at Washington University, John Hopkins, and Texas Tech University and in testament to his deep faith and love for service. Gary pursued theological studies at the Lutheran Seminary before resuming his medical career in St. Louis.
Gary's medical journey took him from practicing in Memphis and Sevierville, Tennessee to serving as a professor of Cardiology at Texas Tech for over two decades. He left a lasting impression on his students- many credit him with shaping their careers. His fellows and colleagues admired him not only for his clinical expertise but also for his enduring kindness and mentorship.
In his later years, Gary returned to Memphis, where he resumed practice alongside Dr. Roger Gibson. Over the years, he cultivated strong bonds with his patients, who appreciated his caring demeanor and commitment to their health.
Beyond his professional life, Gary loved cheering for the Green Bay Packers and Texas Tech, caring for his dogs and living out his faith.
He is survived by his sister, Susan Gibson (Roger); brothers, Mike Meyerrose (Sarah) and Mark Meyerrose: nieces and nephews Lisa Gibson (Kiel), Luke Gibson (Sheree) and Anna Meyerrose (Seth): stepchildren, Amy Raybourn (Darren), Andy Sullivan, and Allyn Dunavin; eight grandchildren, including Darby, Lindsay and Alex: four great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children Research Hospital, Christ the King Lutheran Church or Faith Lutheran Church.
Dr. Meyerrose's legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched in his professional life. He will be missed and remembered.
