Phil was born on October 1, 1927 in Lawrence Massachusetts. He graduated from Lawrence High School and Northeastern University where he earned a Batchelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering. After serving in the U.S. Merchant Marine in World War II and the U.S. Army Signal Corps during the Korean War he was employed for 37 years with General Signal Company marketing automatic control equipment to major industrial corporations and utilities.
He and Martha were married in 1987 and upon retirement they moved from Framingham, Massachusetts to the Asheville, North Carolina area where he received a Master of Liberal Arts degree from UNC Asheville. Teaching was a great joy for him. He taught undergraduates at UNC Asheville for one year, and seniors at The College for Seniors for fifteen years, sharing his love of music, arts, and literature. He also taught Bible and Church History at churches in Massachusetts and Asheville. His collection of books numbered in the thousands as did his classical music collection. He volunteered for many years at the Billy Graham ‘Cove’ and the Chuck Colson prison ministry.
He was preceded in death by his parents George C. and Beenie McGeoch, his first wife Molly, mother of his children, and his sister Cynthia Boucher.
He is survived by his wife Martha and three children; Valerie Loughman (Leo) of Littleton Massachusetts, Glenn McGeoch (Diane) of Meridian, Idaho, and Geoffrey McGeoch of Memphis, Tennessee, as well as Granddaughter Molly, grandson Rob, two stepdaughters, one stepson, eight step-grandchildren, and seven step-great grandchildren.
Phil’s life was a reflection of his faith. He started his day with God, writing in his journals, a practice he began in 1978.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, April 14th, at 10:00 AM in the Edgell Grove Cemetery in Framingham, Massachusetts. The service will be conducted by Metrowest Funeral Home. Phil was a faithful member and servant of the First Presbyterian Church of Weaverville, North Carolina where a memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 19th at 11:00 AM.
