GGlenn Howard Greene, age 61, was called home on Wednesday, June 7, 2023. Born in Memphis, Tennessee on September 20, 1961, to Charles Maxwell Greene and Patricia Ingram Greene, Glenn was a beloved son, brother, father, uncle and friend to many.
At age 20, Glenn enlisted with the US Army. The honor to attend Airborne Ranger School and to serve in the 1st Battalion, 75th Regiment was among one of his proudest achievements. Few men make it that far and for Glenn, he acknowledged confidently that he had made it solely by God’s grace. Glenn served the Army proudly for 6 years, in various duty stations in the United States, was called to action in the conflict in Grenada and served in the Berlin Brigade in Germany prior to his honorable discharge in 1985.
Glenn entered the Army as a Private First Class and was discharged as an E4 Sergeant. He excelled as a soldier and serving as a unit leader in the US Army’s 1st Ranger Battalion instilled in him a high set of ethical standards and conduct that would carry him far in the business world. Studying Business Management during his tour of duty, Glenn returned stateside and began a 21-year career with Orion Packaging Systems, ultimately serving as the Vice President and General Manager. He went on to utilize this experience by pursuing a career in real estate, finding a niche in assisting individuals and companies in navigating the complex world of loss mitigation and foreclosures, but eventually made the decision to achieve his personal real estate license. With a transition to residential sales, Glenn thrived working with clients and loved serving them one on one to meet their goals and needs. He was a member of Hope Church and for over 15 years he served faithfully on the media team, operating cameras for many services and church programs. In addition to service to his church, he enjoyed live music, time with his friends and working on his boat at the lake.
Many accomplishments to his name, they were but nothing to Glenn’s greatest joy in life, the role of Dad to his son, Brandon O’Brien Greene, who was born April 29, 1995. He was described by Glenn as not only his son but his closest friend and mentor. Following Brandon’s unexpected death on May 20, 2016, Glenn devoted his life to furthering his memory and to encouraging young people to pursue their passions as Brandon did, by creating the Brandon O’Brien Greene Memorial Scholarship, part of the Ranger Scholarship Fund, Inc.
There is no greater peace and joy than to know that Glenn was welcomed into heaven by Brandon, and by those who have gone before him; his mother, Patricia Ingram Greene, father, Charles Maxwell Greene, stepmother, Dorothy Ann Greene, his brothers Charles Maxwell (Mack) Greene, Jr. and Gus Glasscock, and the many brave soldiers that he fought with on the battlefield and beyond.
He is survived by his sisters, Kathy Weyandt (Brad) of Friendswood, Texas, Marsha Klimetz (David) of Rossville, Tennessee, Liz Moore (Tim) of Helena, Montana, Kathy Wright (Danny) of Charlotte, North Carolina, sister in law Diane Greene (Mack) and brother John David Glasscock (Delene) of Columbus, Texas, as well as his nieces and nephews whom he loved as if they were his own and many special friends.
Glenn lived a life to be remembered and to be celebrated. He faced challenges, fears, accomplishments, and joys, but he did so with the grit and fortitude that one would expect from an Army Ranger. He lived by the Ranger Creed, “…arriving at the cutting edge of battle, land, sea or air, accepting the fact that as a Ranger, my country expects me to move further, faster, and fight harder than any other Soldier.”, and that legacy is what he leaves us to remember. After reading a Ranger editorial, his sister, Kathy, once commented to Glenn that, “You went through things we will never know, and with the help of your buddies, God’s Grace and plan for you, and the untold testing of everything you are, you did it!” As we celebrate his life, we rest peacefully and with confidence that HE DID IT! “RANGERS LEAD THE WAY”, and we press on in faith that Glenn has led the way for us all to His eternal Home where we will all be reunited.
