

Harriett is preceded in death by her husband of forty-one years, Dr. Wilmer Albert Sweetser, Sr., who was a longtime professor and chair of the Political Science Department at Rhodes College in Memphis, and died in 1992. Harriett is survived by her four children, Karen Anderson, a special education teacher, Dr. Al Sweetser (US Army Colonel Retired), Scott Sweetser (US Army Colonel Retired), and Dr Wyndie Buckler, a veterinarian, as well as eleven grandchildren, and one great granddaughter.
Harriett graduated from Providence Hospital School of Nursing in Mobile, Alabama. She worked for forty years as a Registered Nurse, including at Memphis Methodist Hospital, and as a Hardeman County, Tennessee public health nurse. She retired in 1995. In retirement, Harriett volunteered as an usher at the Orpheum Theatre in Memphis and other local community theaters, and at Baptist Collierville Hospital as a Pink Lady. Harriett was a long time beloved member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Collierville, where she sang in the choir, was on the altar guild, and was a member of Daughters of the King.
Harriett was known by her caring, kindness and positive outlook on life. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at St. Andrews on October 23, 2025, visitation to begin at 10:00 and service at 11:00, followed by a private interment at Pine Crest Cemetery in Mobile. Memorials may be sent to St. Andrews or any charity of their choice.
