He was born June 23, 1933, in Cleveland, OH, the son of the late Walter W. and Mayme Erbs Stevens. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister Mary E. Mack and great grandchild, Kingston.
Howard enlisted in the U.S. Navy and retired as Chief Quartermaster with 30 years of service. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he was awarded the Bronze Medal with Combat V, Navy Commendation Medal with Combat V, Presidential Unit Citation, National Defense Service Medal with 1 Bronze Star, and the Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Silver Star. He also served in the Korean War. Throughout his military career, he was awarded several commendations for valor and his service to his country.
He is survived by his loving wife, Tamie Kanai. They married in Yokohama, Japan and were blessed with 54 years together. He is also survived by his son, John M of Bruceton, TN; daughters, Joyce (Jeff) Harrah of Belle, WV, Julia (Jeff) Lowrey of Eads, TN; five grandchildren, Briana (Charles) Phillips, Billy Stevens, Joshua Harrah, Michael Caballero, Selina Caballero; sister Mabel P. Smock of Merritstown, PA, and several nieces and nephews.
He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
