

James David Godwin, 92, of Tyler, passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2016 in Collierville, TN. Mr. Godwin was born on November 4, 1923 in DeKalb, TX. A U.S. Army Veteran, Mr. Godwin was self employed for over 25 years as a Milk Hauler in Tyler and was known all over for his trademark trucks. He was a lifetime Texas resident and was a member of Green Acres Baptist Church. Mr. Godwin was a horse trainer and a real estate developer and loved to "make a deal." He was one of the first members of the National Quarter Horse Association. Mr. Godwin is survived by his wife, Evelyn, three daughters, Nora, Glenda, and Judy, and one son, Mark. He also leaves to cherish his memory, five grandchildren, Dr. Christopher Godwin, Jennifer Beaty, Heather Thompson, Sarah Thompson, and Emma Thompson, and five great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 2, 2016 from 9am until the service begins at 10am, all at Collierville Funeral Home, 534 W. Poplar Ave. Collierville, TN.
