I offer my deepest sympathy to the Martin family. I had the honor of working with James and was always amazed at his positivity in the face of adversity and his dedication to serving his country. A true expert in his field, he was always willing to help others. The CG-1B family will sorely miss him. My condolences and we will continue to support you through this difficult time.

The sad news broke my heart. James was one of the nicest guys I ever knew. He was always the same nice guy every time you saw him . From being a young man at Stonewall Jackson , to being the fine man, husband and Father he become. He will be greatly missed.

Lil Jim was my cousin. I grew up around him and we were close in age. He was more like my brother than cousin. I remember staying with them in 1983 and having to start a new high school. Lil Jim was there to show me the ropes and help me navigate the halls of Stonewall Jackson. If the weather was good enough we’d walk home together. Life goes by and distance grows. I will always treasure my memories of him and I sure will miss him and regret time not spent with him. Prayers to his family as they start this difficult journey. Love to you cuz! Give all my family up there hugs and kisses for me.

To my dear friend Denise!
My heart is truly heavy. Over 20 years ago, through Dennis & Martin, I had the opportunity to meet, and develop a friendship with you. We had a lot in common. We were both single mothers with young sons (Andrew & Matthew). We were both blessed to meet, fall in love, and marry our Sailors (who just happened to be extremely close friends). Through the years, we created many memories together that I will always cherish. For example, when the four of us went out to dinner, on the waterfront, and I got a little carried away (to say the least) with “shots”, Lol!
However, what I remember, and will cherish most, is the love that was shared between you and Martin. He was such a dedicated husband and a proud father (oh how he loved his boys). His love for you and his family was undeniable...so strong, so radiant, and yet so gentle which is why it will continue to live on...not only through your heart, but the hearts of his children’s children...
We love you and Martin so...forever in our hearts. Our Condolences to you, Andrew, Nathan, Nicholas, Logan, and family.

Dear Denise and family,
My deepest sympathies for the loss of James. Knowing James for a number of years professionally, I was lucky to experience his boundless thirst for knowledge and his enthusiasm for and passionate pursuits at work and his remarkable remarkable love and dedication to each one of his family. I have been blessed to witness these last few weeks the living evidence of his most important endeavors, his love for you “mom”, his love for his boys and granddaughter, and your equally matched love for them and to him “Dad.” It was my honor to have worked along side him and to know him as friend for many years. It was my duty, my honor, and my call to be by his side and yours to offer my love and support! As was then, as is now, and into the future I hold him high in esteem and am here to be of service to you and the boys whom he cherished with every single breath in life!

Lil Jim, I am so glad I got to talk to you before you went to your forever home. We were pretty close growing up, we fought like brother and sister sometimes. I remember when Jo Ann and I were in Virginia and you wanted me to drive your car, which was a stick shift so you could study. Well I was scared to death to drive that car, you had to do the shifting of the gears of course, and you didn't get any studying done. I didn't drive very long when we pulled over and switched seats, I think I scared you as much as I scared myself. I love you forever and always, you were a great man, husband, father, grandfather, son , brother and nephew. Tell your mawmaw I love and miss her, and I will see you all again, when it's my turn, till then R.I.P..
