James Knox “Jimmy” Morrison died peacefully at his home in Collierville, TN on January 22, 2023. He was born on February 24, 1942 and was a longtime resident of Rossville. He graduated from Collierville High School and Lambuth College, marrying his high school sweetheart and love of his life in 1965. He was a farmer and small business owner in Fayette County for much of his life and later worked as a realtor with Banyan Tree Realtors in Collierville. He served his community as a Fayette County Commissioner, a Rossville Alderman, and a longtime Board Member with Chickasaw Electric. He was a member of Collierville United Methodist Church.
He is predeceased by his brother Currie Morrison, brother-in-law Jack Everett, and parents Addison Knox Morrison and Nelle Crawford Morrison of Rossville and Somerville. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ruth Ellen Everett “Fel” Morrison, children Wynne (Brian Dunham), Carl (Celia Welch) and Laurie (Jeff Jackson), as well as grandchildren Ellie and Anna Dunham, Drew and Emily Jackson, and Knox Morrison.
His family will always remember his kindness, quiet steadiness, love of sports (particularly football - Roll Tide!, tennis and golf), love of the land and flying small planes, late nights playing bridge and his constant support and pride in his family. He was always able to work things out without arguing and was a friend to everyone he met. Always a gentleman, he tried to see the StoryPoint staff to the door up until his final weeks, even when he struggled to walk or with his memory. He is greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held at Collierville United Methodist Church at 454 West Poplar Avenue, Collierville, TN on Saturday, January 28th with visitation starting at 9:30 am and service starting at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family would far prefer donations to be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation at www2.jdrf.org in honor of his namesake grandson Knox, or to the Pediatric Advanced Care Team of the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia at https://give.chop.edu/page/contribute/pediatric-palliative-care
(or mail: P.O. Box 781352, Philadelphia PA 19178-1352), to help support families cared for by his daughter.
