James "Jim" Wilbur Steen

December 9, 1958June 13, 2020

James "Jim" W. Steen passed away on June 13, 2020 at Methodist LeBonheur Germantown Hospital after a short illness at 61 years of age. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Lois and Bill Steen. He is survived by his wife; Lane (Peeples), daughter; Josie, son; Will, two brothers; Bill Steen (Trish), Bob Steen, sister-in-law and brother-in-law; Gayle and Joe Ennis and many loving nieces and nephews.

Jim was born December 9, 1958 in Joliet, Illinois with his home being in New Lenox, Illinois. Memphis, TN became his home after attending Illinois State University on a wrestling scholarship then making food sales his career. He met and married Lane, celebrating 30 years of marriage.

Jim's passions were any activities that involved family with focus on any activities that Josie and Will participated in from sports, scouts, to especially school band programs. Jim very much enjoyed friends, cooking, boating, fishing and family vacations; however, most importantly he was a Christian and dedicated to Germantown United Methodist Church.

The University of Memphis held a special place in Jim's heart, and he supported everything from academics to athletics, chiefly the football team. Jim will be missed by his family and tailgate friends when the Tigers take the field this fall.

Jim Steen's visitation service will take place Friday, July 17, 2020 from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm at Collierville Funeral Home, 534 West Poplar Avenue, Collierville, TN. The memorial service will be Saturday, July 18, 2020 at 11:00 am at Germantown United Methodist Church Sanctuary, 2331 South Germantown Road, Germantown, TN. If attending, please plan to wear a mask.
