Janet Marie Cook, age 82, of Germantown, Tennessee, passed away on December 24, 2025, due to complications from Alzheimer's Disease. Janet was born in Des Moines, Iowa on September 18, 1943 to John and Margaret Habick.
Her parents welcomed her to their modest home in the “Southeast Bottoms” area of Des Moines. The home lacked indoor plumbing and other amenities, but it had an abundance of love. When Janet was sixteen she worked part-time as a candy girl at the Paramount Theater on Grand Avenue in Des Moines where she met Nicholas “Nick” Charles Cook, who worked as a movie usher. They fell in love and married December 4, 1960 at the historic Chesterfield Christian Church. Both were seventeen and still in high school, Janet at East High School and Nick at Tech High School.
Janet and Nick relocated ten times across the country for Nick’s career. While raising three children, Janet made friends easily in every new city, drawing others to her with her warmth and straightforward nature.
Janet took up crafting and later became an accomplished artist, skilled in multiple paint mediums. Most of her artwork became cherished gifts for friends and relatives.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers; John Habick (Lucy) and Jackie Habick (Peggy); her sister, Marjorie Welch (Kent); and her grandson, Nicholas Cook.
Janet is survived by her husband of 65 years, Nicholas Cook; two sisters, Carol Habick and Myra Xanders (Jerry); her daughter, Robin Dalgleish (Bruce); and sons, Nicholas Cook (Donna) and Christopher Cook. She is also survived by four grandsons and two great-grandaughters.
Private funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Collierville Funeral Home. Her remains will be interred at the West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery. A celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
