He is survived also by his mother- and father-in law, Mr. and Mrs. Lijin Zou and Yinxia Lu, his brother-in-law Ben Bogle, his brother- and sister-in-law Shizhou Chen and Li Zou, two nieces, Yuelin Chen and Yueyang Zou, and Godparents Mr. and Mrs. Jim McKillen. Other survivors include a large extended family of 12 aunts and uncles, 28 cousins, 12 second cousins and many other friends and relatives who are grieving his loss. Joe was blessed to have aunts who lived at the beach and by the mountains, so he had many memorable vacations. When he was eleven, his only sister was born. He was thrilled to have a sibling and they developed a special friendship. At age twelve, Joe won a newly developed TRS-80 home computer. He and his Dad worked through the instruction book page by page. By junior high Joe was writing programs and having trouble finding teachers who were at his level. He was a National Merit Scholarship graduate of Germantown High School and a Presidential Scholar at the University of Memphis where he majored in electrical engineering, graduating with a B.S. in computer science. Joe attended one year of seminary. He won too many awards and honors to list here. Joe loved to snow ski, swim, camp, canoe, and to travel. He went to many exotic places including China, Russia, India, The Philippines, Greece, France, Italy, England, Egypt, Israel, Thailand, Canada, and Ireland.
Above all, Joe was a committed Christian and loved telling others about Jesus Christ. He participated in many mission trips over the years. For many years he operated a ministry to Muslims using his knowledge of the internet, the Bible and the Koran. Joe also had the privilege to minister to many international members of our community. Study of the Bible was one of his greatest passions and he was able to impart knowledge of this to others, especially his daughter who had been studying the chronological Bible with him. As a result of their studies together she learned to love Jesus and will be baptized in the near future. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 15 beginning at 7PM with visitation prior to the service from 5PM – 7PM all at Collierville Funeral Home, 534 W. Poplar Avenue, Collierville, TN.
