

John Hamilton Henszey passed away on June 9, 2026 at the age of eighty-nine. John, a resident of Piperton, Tennessee, was born in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania on July 22,1936 to John Hamilton Henszey and Ellen Davey Henszey and was raised in State College. He lived a life defined by hard work, discipline and dedication.
After attending George School in Newton, Pennsylvania, John went on to serve his country as a member of the United States Army and later graduated from Penn State University. John built a thirty-five-year career in the agricultural chemicals industry with Chevron Chemical Corporation and Valent USA. In his various positions, John was able to mentor and share his commonsense and business acumen with many. He retired as a District Manager in 1997.
John met Barbara in Portland, Maine, and the two shared fifty-six years of marriage. Over the course of their marriage, John’s career gave them the opportunity to live in Portland, Maine; Lebanon, Pennsylvania; Winchester, Virginia; and, in 1983, brought them to the Germantown, Tennessee area. Following retirement, John and Barbara moved to Piperton, Tennessee, where he became actively involved in public service. John held several appointed positions, including Head of the Industrial Development Board and Chairman of the Planning Commission, and found much satisfaction in contributing to the growth and direction of the community.
John was a devoted member of Crossroads Baptist Church and held a firm belief in Christ’s transformative grace, which was reflected through quiet acts of service. He enjoyed golf, gardening, a good home-improvement project, watching Penn State football, and time spent with Barbara.
John is survived by his wife, Barbara; his children: JoEllen Henszey (Craig), Bethany Freeman (John), David Henszey (Jenny); a sister, Elizabeth Henszey Eaton; his seven grandchildren: Chelsea (Trevin), Tara (Cory), Kelsey (Aaron), Kyler, Abby (Nolan), Jack, and Meredith; and six great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, John Henszey and brother, Andrew H. Dill.
A service celebrating John’s life will be held at Crossroads Baptist Church, Wednesday June 17, 2026; visitation will begin at 10 a.m., with funeral service beginning at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Saint Jude or the Mission Fund at Crossroads Baptist Church.
